Feedback: What to Say and How to Say It
Feedback is a critical part of performance management. Talking with employees on a regular basis, discussing their goals and their progress, helping them identify their challenges and putting plans in place for overcoming these, are all parts of giving employees feedback.
What You Will Cover
Important elements of an orientation program- Orientation is one of the most important parts of the hiring process but a lot of the time it gets cut short (or not done at all) because of the need to get the new employee working as soon as possible. The orientation process should never be shortened or skipped all together because it is important for the new employee to learn how things work and get comfortable with the new environment so that they don't feel stressed and overwhelmed. The Feedback course will give you tips on how to give a good orientation so that your new employees feel comfortable in their new environment.
How to create measurable and agreed upon performance standards- In order to get the results you want you need to discuss performance standards with your employees. If your standards are too high and nearly impossible to live up to your employees will get discouraged and upset with themselves. The Feedback course will give you tips on how to discuss performance standards with your employees so that everyone is on the same page.
How to monitor progress- Staying involved in the work of your employees is extremely important to both the organization and the employee. Monitoring employee progress will let you know how they are doing and will let them know what they are doing correctly and what they need to change. The Feedback course will give you tips on how to better monitor employee progress.
How to create a climate where feedback will be accepted- Sometimes employees may not accept feedback as well as you would have hoped. As a leader you must be able to put these employees in an environment where they are comfortable and will accept your feedback in a positive way. You need to be able to know your employees and how to approach them with feedback in a way that they will walk away motivated to do better. The Feedback course will help you do just that.
Characteristics of effective feedback- As we all know, there is a good way to give feedback and a bad way to give feedback. The Feedback course will help you to identify they characteristics of both and will teach you how to give the most effective feedback you can in order to achieve the best results.
How to accept feedback yourself- Giving feedback is one thing, but taking it is another. As an employee of the organization you need to be able to accept feedback in a positive and productive way yourself. Along with teaching you how to give constructive feedback, the course will teach you how to accept it.
How to create a paper trail- Documentation is an important part of having an organized way of giving feedback. When giving feedback it is important to have something written down to go by so that you can give valid information and examples of what they are doing well and what they need to work on. The Feedback course will teach you how to use a paper trail to document whether your employees are living up to the organizations standards.
